A Little Guide To... Cheltenham Town

A Little Guide To... Cheltenham Town
Next up for the Cobblers are Cheltenham Town who travel to Whaddon Road this Saturday.

Cheltenham Town
The Robins host Northampton this weekend placed just below the top half in 13th place. Summer signing Wesley Thomas is amongst the League Two's top goal scoring charts, two goals behind Rotherham's Adam Le Fondre with 7 goals to his name so far this season.

Cheltenham will be the Cobblers sixth shortest trip that they will make this season, only 76 miles seperate the two sides by the time the team arrive in Gloucestershire on Saturday afternoon.

The Ground
Known to many fans still as Whaddon Road, its modern day name is The Abbey Buisness Stadium and has a total capacity of 7,066.

Northampton's travelling supporters on Saturday are housed in the In2Print stand to one end of the pitch where a total of 1,100 fans can be accomodated. Adults can expect to fork out 20 for access to the match on Saturday, concessions paying 14 and under 16's 7.

The One To Watch
The one stand out player on Saturday will be Wesley Thomas whose name is amongst League Two's goal scoring charts with 7 to his name so far this season. Thomas has only once failed to score at Whaddon Road this season when Bury defeated the Robins 2-0 back in September.

The Boss
Like our man Ian Sampson, Robins boss Mark Yates is well known with his current team after racking up over 200 appearances for Cheltenham back in his playing days. Ironically, as a manager, Kidderminster were his previous employers before his move to Gloucestershire, the same story occuring back in his playing days when he joined Cheltenham from the Harriers in 1999.

Yates just saved his side from relegation last season, finishing 4 points of the relegation zone after the last round of fixtures of the 09-10 campaign back in May. In his first full season as manager, his side currently sit in a respectable 13th position after 10 games, 7 places above the Cobblers.

Previous Encounters
Last time out Cheltenham came to a boggy, water-logged Sixfields Stadium, the home fans working from the early hours of the morning to avoid postponement of the game. In the end the home fans efforts paid off as a last gasp header from American college student Seb Harris (his first senior goal in professional English football) secured all three points for the Cobblers. Marley Watkins levelled after Akinfenwa's opener before Harris headed in the Cobblers' second from Alex Dyer's cross.

The Cobblers are yet to win on the road this season but come into this game with a full weeks recovery behind them, the first the Cobblers have had in over two weeks following Carling Cup commitments. Its any ones guess what Cobblers side will turn up but there is a feeling around the travelling contingent that they could witness their sides first away league win of the season. The Cobblers winning by two goals to one.
