Cheltenham Town 3-2 Cobblers
Northampton continue to be involved in goal filled games but once again, in a game that had five-goals, they were on the wrong end of the scoreline as we lost at Cheltenham Town.
Luck wasn't on our side, but missed chances also counted against us as the home side won 3-2 at Whaddon Road on Saturday afternoon.
Cheltenham had the best chance, of what seemed the best chances of what looked likely to be a goalless, first half when Jason Taylor made Tottenham Hotspur loanee 'keeper Jordan Archer made a fine save.
In the second-minute of first half injury-time Cheltenham broke through. A Matt Richards freekick was knocked down to transfer-listed striker Terry Gornell (45) who scored at the second attempt, having seen his first effort blocked.
Whatever Chris Wilder said at half time worked as within minutes Enda Stevens' pass to Joel Byrom (48) saw the on loan Preston North End man fire home an equaliser.
A deficit was almost turned into a lead when former Cheltenham man Kaid Mohamed was denied, at the end of a good move, by the post with Gornell producing a fine save out of Archer again shortly after.
Cheltenham restored their late on when another Richards freekick was headed home by Gornell (78) again with former Northampton loanee John Marquis (84) coming off the bench to coolly smash home the third, which was yet again part of a Richards freekick.
Minutes later, and with four-minutes plus injury-time to play, a grandstand finale was set-up when David Moyo (86) headed home but it ended being nothing more than a consolation as we lost three-two.
