Cobblers In Good Shape

Northampton had a near full strength squad to select from for the game against Sileby Rangers on Saturday, with the exception of a few.

Lewis Hornby was one that was always missing this pre-season friendly as he continues to battle back from a long-term injury, which will be a slow process.

Also sitting out the nine-nil win over the UCL Premier Division outfit though were Zander Diamond and Ricky Ravenhill, but both are expected to be fit and ready for the Cobblers for the pre-season trip to Scotland.

Chris Wilder revealed to the Chronicle & Echo on Saturday, following the game, that he decided to leave Diamond out as he had played the full 90-minutes of the behind-closed-doors friendly with Derby County on the Thursday before feeling he had already come through a 'stiff examination there' so decided he was to be 'rested.'

As far as Ravenhill went, he too featured against Derby but 'got a whack in the ribs' and this meant that Wilder wanted to leave him out, even though the veteran wanted to play on Saturday. At this stage of the season there was, quite rightly 'no point risking him'.
