Wilder: Plenty Of Positives
It is pretty hard to find a negative from the nine-nil win over Sileby Rangers on Saturday from a Northampton perspective isn't it?
A player returned from a long, long-term injury, another played a 90-minutes for the first time in over a year, the goals flowed and of course Alex Nicholls' return came with a hat-trick but summer signing John-Joe O'Toole also bagged a treble.
Chris Wilder didn't think that he could have really asked for much more as he got what he wanted from them, and from start to finish.
He wanted his side to give it their all and be 'ruthless' in front of goal, which they were so he has plenty of positives to take away from the game as he looks ahead to the trip to Scotland to continue pre-season next week.
Wilder told the Chronicle & Echo: 'There were a lot of positives for us. There was good play by everybody, good application and attitude.
'The players have worked hard, they kept the hammer down for the entire game, and we were ruthless in front of goal. We wanted to score, and keep scoring, and we did that.
'We will now check on the boys on Monday, but I am sure everybody has come through the game okay and they are looking forward to the trip to Scotland.'
Wilder also wanted to pay tribute to our host Sileby, who found the going tough due to the greater strength and fitness of the Cobblers owing to the professional nature of the club.
He couldn't fault Fernie Fields for the condition of the pitch and the hospitality shown, with them wished well for the coming season.
