Aidy Had Plenty Of Time

The sacking of Aidy Boothroyd was something that some questioned at the time, even as the season went on some still questioned this, but at the end of the season few could?

David Cardoza thought long and hard before he did decide to sack Boothroyd but having given him 'plenty of times' he finally decided that he time was right and looking back he thinks the decision was spot on.

The Cobblers chairman told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: 'We gave Aidy plenty of time to get it right and he couldn't do it.

'I don't think we should have sacked him earlier. I think we did it at the right time.

'There is a huge cost attached to sacking managers and bringing new ones in, and that all has to be taken into account.'

Boothroyd was sacked on December 21st; it wasn't until over a month later that Chris Wilder was appointed on January 23rd.

Waiting to get the right boss in the shape of Wilder also proved right when some thought he should have acted sooner.

Decisions are sometimes wrong, these were definitely right and he knows it.

Cardoza added: 'Had we got someone in a month earlier and got relegated then everyone would be saying we acted too quickly.

'So I don't listen to too much of that sort of thing.

'We make decisions as a board and sometimes they are the right ones and sometimes they are the wrong ones.'

Easy to say 'told you so' when something pays off, but I don't think Cardoza is doing that here is he?
