Richards Returns

Richards Returns

Northampton's second signing of the summer has been officially confirmed today; it's a signing well known to Cobblers fans.

Marc Richards, who spend a two-year spell with the club that started more than a decade ago when he made 65 appearances between 2003-2005 and scored 12 goals, has signed a three-year contract with the Cobblers.

Richards had been with Chesterfield, and helped them to the league two title, but rejected the chance to join them into league one in favour of staying in league two and returning to Sixfields.

He could have stayed but decided that he wanted to go somewhere he could play more regular first-team football.

Richards told BBC Radio Northampton: 'I had an opportunity to stay there but felt it was best I move on to get more games.

'I want to get as many promotions as I can before I hang my boots up and, hopefully, I can help Northampton get some good memories.'

A three-year contract for a 31-year-old could be a risk, but you have to back Chris Wilder's judgement and hope that Richards can help bang in the goals with him looking for around 30 more this season.

Are you happy to see Richards back?
