'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Defender Wants Small But Mighty

A huge squad, or at least the using of plenty of players, doesn't guarantee success. Far from it and Northampton can testify to this.

Last season Northampton used 39 players in the first-team in total but Gregor Robertson, who was offered a new contract by Chris Wilder that he's currently considering, feels that a smaller group of players can make the club successful.

He told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: 'I'm sure the manager will want to add more players and the team in the second half of the season was very different to the one in the first half of the season.

'With a couple of players here and there I'm sure we can challenge at the right end of the table next time.

'I've heard there was a ridiculous amount of players used by Northampton in the season and that's something that doesn't go hand in hand with success.

'Getting a core group and adding a few to that will make for some good times ahead.'

Robertson and Zander Diamond, who has agreed a contract to stay at Sixfields, formed a good pairing to end the season with him happy how the season did go in the end.

I wonder if Robertson will accept his contract, you would think he will based on what he's saying?
