Sinclair And Connell Decision Backfires
Chris Wilder opted to take Emile Sinclair and Alan Connell out of his starting XI to face Fleetwood on Saturday and perhaps that decision backfired on Northampton.
Sinclair scored twice against Torquay United in the midweek victory with both goals set-up for him by fellow transfer window signing Connell but both of them were dropped to the bench at the weekend.
Wilder opted to pack the midfield with John Marquis played as the lone striker and with both Sinclair and Connell not playing much of late he thought it best to go the way he did.
Explaining the decision the boss told the Northampton Chronicle: 'We have had a really long trip to Torquay on Tuesday, and they haven't played a lot of football as well.
'John Marquis has come into the group, and Antonio German has not played, and I felt we needed to freshen it up.
'I wanted to go with that shape as well, and I thought it worked well, Fleetwood never really gave us a problem.
'We needed to make sure we had bodies in the middle of the park, which we did. We picked up a lot of the second ball and played from there.'
Would the result against Fleetwood have been any different if the pair had played? We'll never know.
