Cardoza: King In The Running

Cardoza: King In The Running

Andy King said that he'd given David Cardoza something to think about following Northampton's win over Newport.

He certainly has!

The Cobblers chairman has confirmed that King is one of the contenders to replace Aidy Boothroyd and he's one of the candidates that's been interviewed for the job with him remaining in caretaker charge for the foreseeable future.

King's advantage, no matter how well the other candidates come across in interviews is, that he's in a position to influence the decision as he's picking the side and if he can do this and get results it helps his case.

Cardoza told BBC Radio Northampton: 'Andy's the one putting the team out and if he gets results he is in a much better position than anyone else.

'At the minute he's proving that.

'We don't see the point of changing anything while things are going the right way but we understand Andy and the fans need to see that things are stabilising and they are.'

Clearly the chairman is happy to back the caretaker as he's already allowed him funds to bring in some players on loan and is going to make more money available to him and anticipates further arrivals before the weekend.

He added: 'We are looking to strengthen the team and I expect by Saturday we should have two or three players in.'

I don't think that Boothroyd's former assistant would be the one that was turned to, but perhaps he will be? If he continues to be backed by the chairman, and continues to get results then you'd expect he would.

Another in the running is former midfielder Chris Hargreaves, the Cobblers and another of his former sides Torquay had made an approach to Bournemouth talk to him.
