'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We Always Put Up A Fight

Okay, we might not have won at the weekend but we also avoided defeat didn't we!

Aidy Boothroyd was certainly left happy with the "fight" and "character" shown to make sure that we didn't slip to defeat in a potential relegation six-pointer as Northampton came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Bury on Saturday.

Ricky Ravenhill's foul around the midway point of the first half gave Dan Nardiello the chance to give Bury a lead from the spot and he made no mistake. Dean Howell put through his own net soon after to see us level though.

Both sides could have won it after, but all in all we were probably the better side and not only were the qualities already mentioned shown it meant we kept up a run we've got building.

Boothroyd said: 'After a very fiery first 15 minutes when Bury had a real go at us, we got ourselves together.

'After that period, we limited them and I thought we had the better chances and were the better team.

'This keeps our little run going. It's another draw away from home at a difficult place and if that chance late on had fallen to McLeod or Platt rather than Doumbe we would have scored.

'We showed character and one thing I won't accept is when people say 'your team didn't put up a fight' because we always put up a fight.'

Penalty should have gone our way though with the boss pointing out how angry he was, and what he said to the referee!

Adding: 'I said to the referee, are you trying to get me sacked or trying to be player/manager or something?

'If the Bury penalty was a penalty, the challenge on Roy O'Donovan was a penalty too.

'What I won't do though is make excuses. We're in there fighting and although we haven't got a win, the league's tightened up down there.'

Momentum is a key things to have at anytime, but with so many games now coming up due to the Christmas and New Year period the more of this we can carry forward the better.

Clearly a win would have been better but this draw keeps that momentum going forward.
