'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We've Beaten Top Of The League

It sounds good doesn't it, "we've beaten the top of the league!"

This is exactly what we managed at the weekend....

When putting together accumulators for the past weekends games I would suspect that a good few would have put Fleetwood down as an away win at Northampton?

That script wasn't read though with a late goal securing us a 1-0 win over the side that was at the top of the league two table (they are now out of the automatic promotion places), whereas we were at the bottom!

Aidy Boothroyd couldn't hide his delight at this win, which was richly deserved, he told BBC Radio Northampton: 'I've seen Fleetwood a couple of times and they're top of the league for a reason.

'But I thought our work ethic and willingness to want to get out of the trouble we're in was fantastic today. I'm really, really pleased.

'We deserved what we got. We played very, very well. I'm delighted for our supporters because we haven't had many wins like that.'

If a confidence boost was ever to be gained this surely has to be it and if we can't kick on from this Sixfields win we never will.

He added: 'We've beaten the top of the league now, so there's no more excuses.'

It was looking as though the game would end in a draw but Luke Norris wasn't having that as he curled home an injury-time freekick to give us a first league win in five games with us taking the confidence forward from our FA cup win as Aidy had hoped we would.

As he says though it's now imperative that we build on this, and surely we will....
