Good Old Fashioned Hard Work

Were Northampton unlucky to be beaten 3-0 by Mansfield on Saturday afternoon?

Arguably so, in fact probably so as if the opposing boss admits that the scoreline "flattered" his side you can take it as a given that was the case...

Regardless the difficult start, for lack of a better word, that the Cobblers have made to the league one season continued with another setback at the One Call Stadium this past weekend.

How can Aidy Boothroyd turn things around?

Quite simply with his players putting in plenty of "good old fashioned hard work" and then leaving some down to luck that this pays off!

After the game Boothroyd said: 'We need some good old fashioned hard work to turn things around and get back to winning ways.

'When things don't go for you, you redouble your efforts and work twice as hard. So we will be in tomorrow all day and every day and we will work twice as hard until we get this right.

'I have seen this before and it's all about players stepping up, taking control and winning a game.'

Clive Platt could, in fact probably should, have put us ahead early on but his header set the precedent for the day it seems with everything but the ball going into the net the outcome with plenty of efforts passing the Cobblers by, efforts hitting the woodwork or cleared off the line but not going in...

That's successive games that could have been easily won, and that leaves Boothroyd more disappointed but he also knows that statistics" don't win games do they.

He added: 'I am really disappointed today, we have done enough in the last two or three games to win plenty of games.

'The stats may show we were dominant, but the fact of the matter is that we lost 3-0.'

Alas no amount of moaning, groaning or anything else will change things will it, in Boothroyd's own words we just have to "get on with it" and make sure whats needed to happen happens, and happens fast...
