Youngsters coming through into the first team need to play first team football, the benefits of going out on loan to begin with can't be underestimated.
Aidy Boothroyd, as he told the official website, is considering sending out Dean Snedker, Claudio Dias and David Moyo this summer to foreign clubs.
Many clubs overseas are playing seasons currently, so the option of a summer loan could be on to Ireland or a Scandinavian club. He said: 'We've talked as a staff about getting Dean (Snedker), Claudio (Dias) and David Moyo out for some summer football.
'Whether that be in Scandinavia or Ireland or somewhere, I don't know, but we'll perhaps look at that as a way of getting them some games.'
Moyo has first team experience but it's England youth international keeper Snedker that could benefit most of all, with The Cobblers looking for a new keeper following the return to Wigan of last seasons loanee Lee Nicholls.
Boothroyd is challenging Snedker's to make the most of a potential summer move to prove himself worthy of a first team place and to also "save the club a few quid" in the process, adding: 'Everything Dean has done has been great. He's played for England and there is a decision to be made with him.
'As I said to him in his player interview when the squad went away for the summer, if he comes back strongly he might save the club a few quid in terms of bringing a new goalkeeper in.'
In theory this plan sounds like a very good idea, so why not?
