Boss Targets New Keeper
Failure to secure a place in League One has almost certainly cost Northampton the chance of re-signing Lee Nicholls next season.
Aidy Boothroyd, as he told The Chronicle & Echo, has admitted that Nicholls will either challenge for a first-team place at Wigan or go out on loan against in League One, or the Championship and League Two wouldn't benefit him, even if it would Northampton!
He's taking a "never say never" approach but is already making enquires and has someone in mind.
Matt Duke, who enjoyed a successful loan with Northampton previously, could be an option? However it was for Bradford, where his contract ends this summer, that he enjoyed the celebrations against The Cobblers in the play off final, something The Cobblers boss still pictures!
Boothroyd said: 'He was excellent the last time he was with us but I can't get the image of him jumping around at Wembley out of my mind.
'Matt is a Bradford City player, he did really well for them and the good thing about this pre-season is that it's a clubs' market.
'It used to be that it was a players' market but the ball is in the clubs' court now. There will be no shortage of good goalkeepers out there and we'll take one of them.'
