Free Agent Collins Joins Northampton

Northampton have bolstered their defensive ranks by bringing in free agent Lee Collins until the end of the season.

Aidy Boothroyd brought in the former Barnsley defender following his release at the end of last month, having this to say to the official website: 'I am delighted we have been able to bring him in.

'He is a good defender, he can play in more than one position, he has a fantastic attitude and we had to fend off a number of clubs to sign him. I am delighted he is here.'

The defender, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Barnsley last season before joining them permanently in the summer, hasn't featured this season but The Cobblers boss knows he is a player more than capable of playing at a level higher than League Two.

The quality that Collins bring in can only benefit the club, with Boothroyd adding: 'I like Lee and I think if you are going to be successful, then you have got to get players in who are better than the level that you are at.

'Lee certainly is that and he played for us in a reserve team friendly at Stoke in the week.'
