Arron Davies Signs For Exeter City

Arron Davies today had his contract at Northampton cancelled by mutual consent and immediately penned a deal with the St James Park based Exeter City.

It would be fair to describe Davies career at Cobblers as 'stuttering'. Signed by Gary Johnson as something of a marquee capture it never really worked out at Sixfields for Arron when Johnson was sacked. A player with undoubted technical ability and talent but he seems to lack the application. As an outsider looking in it strikes me that he has been massively effected by past injuries and lacks conviction when on the pitch, often shying from tackles, you could perhaps best describe him as a luxury player. Davies does seem to have a canny knack of being in the right place at the right time, often arriving late into the box to put the ball into the net which is a fantastic characteristic and one that can't really be coached. Also in his favour is his ability to pass the ball, a commodity often lacking in league two football which is perhaps why Davies struggled.

Going by all accounts Arron Davies is a fantastic guy, just last weekend he was spotted in McDonalds at 3am and held conversations with fans and spoke superbly. Sometimes for footballers it just doesn't work out for them at certain clubs, look at Jake Robinson as the prime example and I would throw Davies into the same hat, it isn't necessarily anyones fault but just a multitude of different events.

I wish him well at Exeter City and hope he is a huge success, except against Cobblers of course.
