Youngsters Set To Join Town In Croatia

Northampton Town are set to fly out to Croatia on the 6th July for some pre season fitness training and have invited Michael Hoganson and Dominic Dickinson to join them. Instantly I can hear everyone ask, who are they? Hoganson is a young left sided player released by Newcastle United, his availability is something of a surprise as he was highly regarded at Newcastle and was constantly referred to as 'the whizzkid'. Hoganson can play anywhere down the left side, be it full back, wing back or out and out winger. It is no secret that Boothroyd loves players who are flexible and Hoganson seems to fit into that mould perfectly.
Dickinson is a tall centre back released by Huddersfield Town after they chose not to offer him professional terms. He came up through the ranks at Huddersfield and captained the side at almost every age group. Once again he is a versatile player and has the ability to fill in at left back if required.
What can they expect from the pre season training camp in Croatia? Well I suspect there will be some running, more running followed by a warm down of running and if they are really lucky they may get to see a football. Numerous times since he took the reigns at Cobblers Aidy Boothroyd has flagged up the lack of fitness in the squad and how a full pre season is important. It will be hot in Croatia during the clubs time there and there is no question that this sort of training camp can only stand the team in good stead for a 50 game season. It is interesting to note that last summer Gary Johnson wanted to take the club abroad but chairman David Cardoza chose not to comply, the trip to Croatia is an indication of the chairmans trust and belief in current manager Aidy Boothroyd.
There is no doubt that Cobblers will be fully ready for their trip to Spotland on August 18th.
