Cobblers Chase Non-League Hot Shot..

There is growing speculation that Cobblers are one of the clubs to register an interest in signing northern hot shot Jon Shaw. The goalscorer supreme is available on a free transfer after turning down the offer of a new contract at Gateshead, Shaw confirmed his reason for wanting to leave The Tynesiders is his desire to play at the highest level possible and at the age of 28 perhaps time is running out for Shaw to get back into the Football League. Having had previous spells in the League at Sheffield Wednesday and Rochdale it seems likely he will find himself plying his trade at that level once again come August time. A healthy goal return during his spell at Gateshead, 45 goals in 80 games, should leave him with many options. Some clubs already mentioned are Bradford City, Hartlepool United. Luton Town are also thought to be prepared to throw mega bucks at Shaw but it's believed his desire for league football will count them out of the running. It is no secret that Northampton Town have been looking to the non-league scene for some hidden gems and while Shaw is perhaps not that hidden, there is no question he is a gem when it comes to scoring goals.

The question will land with Aidy Boothroyd and if he can persuade Shaw that his future lies at Sixfields, there will no doubt be other strikers on ADB's mind, such as Roy O'Donovan, but it is thought that Jon Shaw is the preferred target as he does not command a fee.

Another striker previously linked to Cobblers was Danny Webber but it seems likely that he has priced himself out of a move due to wage demands. It is clear that Aidy Boothroyd and David Cardoza are spreading the net far and wide to try and locate an additional striker to compliment those already at the club but could Jon Shaw be the man to excite Cobblers fans during pre season?
